Impact of buying attitude over consumption reduction in the context of economic crisis

Resumo: This study aims both to analyse the relationship of consumption reduction to the level of financial threat that people experience within contexts of economic recession and to inquire the impact of rational, compulsive, and impulsive buying attitudes on this relation. For that purpose, a study of quantitative character was carried out by applying a survey. The technique of data analysis used in this research was the moderation, by means of the Process software. The main results indicate that there is a direct relationship between the reduction of consumption and the perception of financial threat, as well as two effects on this relation: a direct moderator effect of the rational buying attitude variable and an indirect moderator effect of the compulsive buying attitude variable. However, the impulsive buying attitude variable does not show a moderator effect in the study.

Para tal, un estudio de carácter cuantitativo fue realizado por medio de la aplicación de un survey. La técnica de análisis de datos utilizada fue la moderación por medio del software Process. Los resultados indican que hay una relación directa entre la reducción del consumo y la percepción de la amenaza financiera, así como sobre esa relación hay un efecto moderador directo de la variable actitud a la compra racional y un efecto moderador indirecto de la variable actitud a la compra compulsiva. La variable actitud a la compra impulsiva, sin embargo, no se caracteriza como moderadora en el estudio.Este estudo tem como objetivo geral relacionar a redução do consumo com o nível de ameaça financeira que as pessoas experimentam em situações de recessão e ver como as atitudes ao comprar – racional, compulsiva e impulsiva – afetam essa relação. Para tanto, realizou-se um estudo de caráter quantitativo por meio de um survey. A técnica de análise de dados utilizada foi a de moderação por meio do software Process. Os resultados indicam que existe uma relação direta entre a redução do consumo e a percepção da ameaça financeira, assim como, sobre essa relação, existem: um efeito moderador direto da variável atitude de compra racional e um efeito moderador indireto da variável atitude de compra compulsiva.
