Mental health of women survivors of feminicide attempts

Feminicide is the ultimate expression of violence against women, usually preceded by a continuum of violence in the trajectory of life. It is the intentional killing of women because of their gender. We sought to investigate the impacts of attempted feminicide on the mental health of women survivors. This is a quanti-qualitative study. We used an online form that sought to identify the identity profile of the participants, the main experiences of attempted feminicide and the impacts on mental health. In the next step, a participant narrated, through an interview, her trajectory as a survivor. The interview was semi-directed, videotaped, and later transcribed in its entirety. Descriptive statistical analysis of the quantitative data was performed. The qualitative information was analyzed in the light of historical and dialectical materialism. The most recurrent feminicide attempts were: hanging (15%), dangerous driving (15%) and hitting your head on dangerous places/objects (15%). After the experience of attempted feminicide, we identified constant feelings of insecurity, fear, lack of confidence, difficulty in establishing affective relationships and financial losses that have a significant impact on mental health.
