This is a discussion on indexing carried out in the area of ​​Librarianship and Museology which are areas that have common concepts such as organization, preservation, mediation, communication and dissemination of information, in addition to sharing concepts of the Knowledge Organization. The aim of the research is discuss the indexing process in the areas of Librarianship and Museology showing their approaches in the respective fields in the process of rapprochement on theoretical and methodological concepts between the two fields of knowledge. The praxis of indexing in libraries and museums is carried out in cataloging called subject cataloging in Librarianship and cataloging in Museology, made in the museological documentation. When discussing indexing in both areas, we sought to contribute to research on the Organization of Information and Knowledge for the field of Information Science. The importance of drawing up an Indexing Policy to underline the indexing procedures is emphasized.
