Using socio-political and economic characteristics of the network society proposed by Castells (1999), this article aims to reflect on the importance of social responsibility and ethics, with regard to the production and dissemination of information through information and communication technologies . The reflections presented here emanate from studies and discussions about information as a constituent element of emancipation from society. In this way, a debate was written about the possibilities of action of Information Science, amid the floods of fake news that flooded the networks in the Brazilian elections of 2018, with the Comprova Project as a model of ethics and social responsibility to be followed.
