Resumo: The question that involves the realization of man, which involves the realization of the individual is the subject of all philosophy. Since Plato, up to the present day scholars have make great efforts to achieve an understanding about man and his condition. When reflecting on man, philosophy sought to understand his aspirations and desires. He sought to understand the best ways and the best options for life, which would enable man, the individual, towards his full happiness. Behind this reflective process, philosophy aims to raise questions that enable the individual to find the best way for its realization. This process of realization in social life is translated by the recognition of the individual himself. It is this same concern with the fulfillment of the individual that involves Rousseau's concerns.

Desde Platão, até os dias atuais os pensadores se desdobram para pensar sobre o homem e sobre sua condição. Ao refletir sobre o homem, a filosofia procurou compreender suas aspirações e seus desejos. Procurou compreender os melhores caminhos e as melhores opções de vida, que possibilitassem ao homem, ao indivíduo, sua plena felicidade. Por trás deste processo reflexivo sobre o homem a filosofia de fato quer levantar indagações que possibilitem ao indivíduo encontrar o melhor caminho para a sua realização. Realização que na vida societária se traduz pelo reconhecimento do próprio indivíduo.
