The reception of welsh intellectuals in Brazil: the formation of a reading public of Ernest Jones and Raymond Williams in university spaces

Resumo: The article analyzes the conditions for the formation of a community of readers organized around the works of Welsh intellectuals within the national academic scene, having as a reference the production of the authors Ernest Jones (1879-1958) and Raymond Williams (1921-1988) in Brazil. After introducing the personal trajectories that place Jones and Williams beyond their respective European centers of creation, the text will proceed to identify the Brazilian personalities responsible for the reception of these two authors in the country, culminating in the organization of collections for their works. A mapping of the presence of Jones and Williams books in collections of Brazilian universities will be presented as an indication of the presence of the aforementioned reading public within these spaces.

El artículo presenta las condiciones para la formación de una comunidad de lectores interesados ​​en intelectuales galeses en el escenario académico nacional, a partir de estudios de recepción y distribución de obras de Ernest Jones (1879-1958) y Raymond Williams (1921-1988) en Brasil . El texto partirá, a partir de las tesis de Benedict Anderson, de la identificación de las personalidades brasileñas que estuvieron entre los responsables de la recepción de estos dos autores galeses contemporáneos, culminando en la organización de colecciones para sus obras. Además de los estudios de recepción, también presentaremos el mapeo de la presencia de los libros de Ernest Jones y Raymond Williams en colecciones y catálogos de universidades públicas y privadas como indicador de la presencia de un público lector.     L'article présente les conditions de formation d'une communauté de lecteurs intéressés par les intellectuels gallois sur la scène académique nationale, à partir des études de réception et de diffusion des œuvres d'Ernest Jones (1879-1958) et de Raymond Williams (1921-1988) au Brésil. . Le texte partira, à partir des thèses de Benedict Anderson, de l'identification des personnalités brésiliennes qui furent parmi les responsables de l'accueil de ces deux auteurs contemporains gallois, aboutissant à l'organisation de collections pour leurs œuvres. Outre les études de réception, nous présenterons également la cartographie de la présence des livres d'Ernest Jones et de Raymond Williams dans les collections et catalogues des universités publiques et privées comme indice de la présence d'un public de lecteurs.     O artigo analisa as condições para formação de uma comunidade de leitores organizada em torno de obras de intelectuais galeses dentro do cenário acadêmico nacional, tendo como referencial a produção dos autores Ernest Jones (1879-1958) e Raymond Williams (1921-1988) no Brasil. Após a introdução das trajetórias pessoais que localizam Jones e Williams para além de seus respectivos centros europeus de criação, o texto partirá para a identificação das personalidades brasileiras responsáveis pela recepção desses dois autores no país, culminando na organização de acervos para suas obras.
