Resumo: Unlike kinship genealogies, scientific genealogies are more complicated to build because the evolution of science is not as linear as kinship evolution seems to be. A child of different philosophical traditions, Social Sciences simultaneously produced several paradigms. These are as much a result of various philosophical traditions as of the uniqueness of the philosophical, political and cultural issues with which each tradition had to deal. Taking these aspects into consideration, the aim of this article is to compare the uses that Radcliffe-Brown and Marcel Mauss make from the influence they received from Durkheim, especially in regards to the scientific method and the place of Anthropology in the scientific pantheon.

Filhas de diferentes tradições filosóficas, as Ciências Sociais produziram, simultaneamente, diversos paradigmas. Estes, tanto são resultantes das várias tradições filosóficas, como da especificidade dos problemas filosóficos, políticos e culturais com os quais cada tradição teve que lidar.
