Resumo: This paper proposes an analysis about the process of “we” and “they” having as locus the “Sulanca” free market in the Northeast of Brazil in the post-modern approach Established and Outsiders by Norbert Elias and John L. Scotson (1965). The development of the productive/commercial phenomenon called “Sulanca” produced an elite formed by the native pioneers from Santa Cruz do Capibaribe, the Established, who reproduce a speech of “we” and “they” regarding the foreigners who came to town to participate on the sulanca economy, the Outsiders. Such elite formed a petite bourgeoisie from the countryside that modernized and privatized the free market to maintain the economics and political control in the region. We used oral history of life and resources from social anthropology as methodology.

We used oral history of life and resources from social anthropology as methodology.
