Resumo: The Pereira Passos Urban Reform happened between 1902 and 1906 during the management of president Rodrigues Alves and of mayor Pereira Passos, and represented the first major intervention in the urban space of Rio de Janeiro. The present study, that consists of bibliographical research, has as main theme to approach several manifestations of resistance the occurred during the transformation in the capital. The objective is to demonstrate that unlike of portrayed by historiography, the population didn’t see the changes that happened in the city and in their lives, ‘’bestializados’’ stunned. The population fought by means of various strategies within its field of possibilities to bar the Urban-Sanitary Project underway. In that sense that resistance should be perceived, manifestations of resistance happen in everyday life, they do not depend only on large mobilizations.

In that sense that resistance should be perceived, manifestations of resistance happen in everyday life, they do not depend only on large mobilizations.A Reforma Urbana Pereira Passos aconteceu entre 1902 e 1906 durante a gestão do presidente Rodrigues Alves e do prefeito Pereira Passos, e representou a primeira grande intervenção no espaço urbano do Rio de Janeiro. O presente trabalho, que consiste numa pesquisa bibliográfica, tem como tema principal abordar diversas manifestações de resistência que ocorreram durante a transformação na capital. O objetivo é demonstrar que diferente do retratado pela historiografia, a população não assistiu às mudanças que ocorreram na cidade e em suas vidas, bestializados. A população lutou por meio de diversas estratégias dentro de seu campo de possibilidades para barrar o projeto urbanístico-sanitário em curso.
