Resumo: This study was carried out within EMBRAPA-CNPC (National Center of Research on Goats) installations and facilities from March to June 1995, having the evaluation of the replacement of goat cheese whey for cow milk in the artificial nursing of goat kids. 27 'Three-Cross' male kids (1/2 Anglo-nubian + 1/4 German Alpine + 1/4 Moxotó) were randomly distributed in four treatments which consisted of the following levels of substitution T1 = 0%, T2 = 20%, T3 = 40% and T4 = 60%. The experimental period had its beginning on the 35th day of the kids' life after a period of ten days of adaptation to the treatments and its completion at the 84th day when the young goats were slaughtered to evaluate their carcasses. The amount of liquid and solid fodder eaten were measured every day by means of weighing the amounts offered and those rejected which comprised mixed samples for ultimate chemical and bromatological analyses. They were weighed at birth, at the beginning of the experiment, and then weekly, in the morning, before the liquid fodder was offered. A totally casual experimental tracing was used and arranged in subdivided shares where the treatments were the shares and the weeks the subshares. The final weights and the daily weight gains were: 12.80 kg and 144.43 g ; 13.02 kg and 145.81 g ; 12.21 kg and 130.52 g and 12.33 kg and 147.84 g for T1, T2, T3 and T4, respectively. Significant difference among the treatments (P > 0.05%) were not noticed. AIso, significant difference was not detected with regard to the other variables under study (carcass weight gain, dry matter consumption as well as conversion of overall matter consumption into weight), thus suggesting that there was no effect in the whey levels utilized in the physical development of the kids. Consequently, the leveI of replacement recommended can go up 60%. The levels of whey utilized, 20%, 40% and 60% resulted in an economy of 30,63% ; 41,44% and 79,28% respectively, in comparison with the use of integral milk.
