Sustentabilidade na produção de camarão: o caso da comunidade de Requenguela, no município de Icapuí – Ceará

The Brazilian Northeast represents 97% of the national production of the sea shrimp Litopenaeus vannamei. The shrimp farming is perceived as aggressive to the environment. The shrimp farming is only made viable if used with responsible and sustainable model, with rational use of the natural resources, in social and financial return of the enterprise. The research studied the sustainability from the model used by community of Requenguela in district of Icapuí, in the State of Ceará. The community met twenty families in association producing in the integrated system since 2001. It analyses the associates’ social and economical situation; the environmental profile; the analysis of the financial sustainability and the partnership system viability. The research showed improvement in the quality of social and economical life of the community, and involvement while labor offers and managers of the business. The conscience on the community’s environment was observed in the recovery salt pit, also perception of the environmental sustainability for the final quality of the product and the financial success of the activity. This work concludes that the integration is important for the financial sustainability and that with responsibility carciniculture can be social, economical and environmental sustainable.
