Resumo: | Sweet potato production is on the rise in Brazil, however its productivity is still evaluated as medium to low due to the spread of diseases. With the purpose of reducing this obstacle and increasing the production of this culture, new studies have been developed combining the micropropagation of plants with the supplementation, with beneficial elements, in their growth medium. One of the beneficial elements that has been widely studied is Silicon (Si). This mineral provides not only morphophysiological benefits to plants, but also promotes greater resistance to fungi and insect pests, in addition to increasing the production of various crops. Therefore, the objective of this work was to evaluate the effect of different concentrations of diatomaceous earth (90% SiO2), as a source of silicon, on the in vitro development of sweet potato var. Meadow. For this, we used nodal segments with two nodes and a leaf of seedlings established in vitro from inoculation in MS culture medium, added with diatomaceous earth concentrations (0.0; 1.0; 2.0; 3. 0; 4.0 and 5.0 g L-1). The experiment was carried out in a completely randomized design, with 10 repetitions per treatment, each repetition consisting of a flask with two explants. At the end of the experiment, 30 days after inoculation, the phytotechnical characteristics were evaluated: shoot length (cm), number of leaves, number of shoots and fresh and dry mass of shoots and roots (g). Significant statistical differences were verified in the results for the fresh and dry mass of shoots and roots, which showed higher values for plants grown in culture medium supplemented with concentrations of 3.0 and 5.0 g L-1 of soil diatom, different from these results for shoot length variables, number of buds and number of leaves did not obtain statistical difference. Based on the observed results, it is concluded that the availability of diatomaceous earth concentrations above 2.0 g L-1 contributes to obtaining seedlings with higher fresh mass of shoots and roots and dry mass of the root. |
