The objective of this study is a conceptual reading of the linguistics of M. M. Bakhtin's Marxism and Philosophy of Language. Based on the characteristic that pervades all his works - the relationship between the use of language and social constructions - Bakhtin considers individual conscience and ideological phenomena, which are reproduced throughout his discourse, as factors being significantly influenced by social and economic factors. Thus, for Bakhtin, linguistic signs cease being immobile signs - neutral insofar as they effect a socio-ideological sign, which is separated in the following manner: dialectic nature - insofar as material reality (a sonorous image) is concerned, another reality is reflected (representations and evaluations from the ideological perspective); and dialogic nature - because it is enclosed by verbal interactions of groups and individuals of which it is composed, like dialogues between diverse discourses - and natural polyphony - to sustain several themes confirming the social and ideological horizon from which surges enunciation.
