Exclusão social no município de Aurora

This Monograph aims to analyze the level of the social exclusion indicators in rural area of Aurora, a city located in Cariri region of Ceará State in 2012. As a way of measuring this phenomenon it was used the Social Exclusion Index (SEI) developed by Lemos (2012), through the analysis of indicators of deprivation that compose it. To measure the indicators Index components (Social Passive, Economic Passive and Environmental Passive) were used primary data obtained by field research and secondary data collected by IBGE and IPECE. Analyzing the results obtained in this study and comparing with the numbers found by Lemos (2012) for the city overall - rural and urban - in 2010, one realizes that by limiting the analysis only to the rural location in 2012, the percentage of "socially excluded" increases significantly from 54,9% estimated by Lemos, 2012, to 68.7% of the population in question. It stands out as major shortcomings, among the indicators used, the percentage of the population without access to treated water and, the share of households with monthly incomes less than twice the minimum wage, with respectively 98.1% and 95.4%.
