Resumo: The objective of this study was to analyze the motivations that explain the collaborative consumption of carpooling. For this, it was necessary to understands the motivating and inhibiting aspects of joining carpooling, the impacts of this transport’s alternative of consumption to the environment and society, and finally to analyze the perception of the individuals interviewed about collaborative consumption. The research is classified in descriptive, regarding the objectives, and in qualitative, regarding the approach. In order to reach the objectives, a bibliographical research was carried out to support the study, and later semi-structured interviews were conducted with eleven individuals, who already offered and / or hitchhiking, in order to reach the results. The results show that carpooling help build trust among strangers, deconstruct fears about society in this practice, promote new forms of common organization for mobility, build and strengthen social ligations, and cause a behavioral transformation, linked to the lifestyle and personal growth of the individuals who adhere to this initiative. It is also noticed that the main motivating aspects of this initiative are closely linked to those that explain the practice of collaborative consumption, these being related to the benefit of access, practicality and convenience, the belief of the common good, linked to solidarity, and possibility of greater social interaction and of obtaining unique experiences, linked to the knowledge of different cultures, people and places. Regarding the perception of people about collaborative consumption, Is conclude that, although there is no clear definition, in the view of users, about what is becoming collaborative consumption, it is perceived that this concept has been increasingly known and endowed of meaning as the practices of collaborative forms become better known, available to all, and adhered to by individuals.

Para isso, foi necessário compreender quais são os aspectos motivadores e inibidores de se aderir a essa iniciativa, os impactos dessa alternativa de transporte ao meio ambiente e à sociedade e por fim analisar a percepção dos indivíduos entrevistados acerca do consumo colaborativo. A pesquisa se classifica em descritiva, quanto aos objetivos, e em qualitativa, quanto à abordagem. Para alcançar os objetivos, realizou-se uma pesquisa bibliográfica para embasar o estudo e, posteriormente, foram realizadas entrevistas de caráter semiestruturadas junto a onze indivíduos, que já ofereceram e/ou pegaram caronas, para, enfim, chegar aos resultados. Os resultados obtidos mostram que as caronas solidárias ajudam a potencializar a confiança entre estranhos, a desconstruir os medos acerca da sociedade perante essa prática, a promover novas formas de organização comum para a mobilidade, a construir e estreitar laços sociais, além de causar transformações de cunho comportamental, atreladas ao estilo de vida e ao crescimento pessoal dos indivíduos que aderem a essa iniciativa. Percebe-se, ainda, que os principais aspectos motivadores dessa iniciativa estão intimamente ligados àqueles que explicam a prática do consumo colaborativo, estando estes relacionadas ao benefício do acesso, à praticidade e conveniência, à crença do bem comum, ligada à solidariedade e à possibilidade de maior interação social e de se obter experiências únicas, atrelada ao conhecimento de culturas, pessoas e lugares distintos.
