Resumo: Tractors and agricultural implements are present in most productive areas in Brazil. Within the cultivation process, the planting stage is presented as decisive in the crop development process. The use of seeder-fertilizer machines to perform this procedure has the furrow opening mechanisms as an intrinsic part. That said, this study aimed to evaluate the traction force demanded by different furrowing mechanisms, as a function of work speed. The experiment was conducted in the experimental area of the Laboratory for Investigation of Accidents with Agricultural Machines (LIMA), at the Federal University of Ceará (UFC), where primary preparation was carried out, with the use of harrowing and rotary hoe, to assist in soil homogeneity. , which is classified as Red-Yellow Argisol. The evaluation of traction force and power parameters was possible through the construction of a coupling support, consisting of wheels and electronic sensors capable of collecting different data and evaluating the variables acting only on active organs, discarding interference from others machine factors. The support connected to the tractor operated at three speeds (0.6 m.s-1; 1.1 m.s-1; 1.7m.s-1) to evaluate the shank and double-disc furrower mechanisms. After collecting data in the field, data were tabulated and statistical analysis performed using Sisvar® software. Within the analyzed parameters, the interaction between the factors was observed to assess possible influences that could be significant to the use of the mechanisms. It was found that the different speeds did not interfere with the work of the rod or the double disk, only in terms of power. However, the furrower mechanisms acted on the power variable and the required traction force. The furrower shank expressed greater draw force demand as well as greater drawbar power for the performance of the operation.
