Resumo: In recent years in Brazil, the study of expansive soils has gained prominence. The expansion process occurs when an expansive soil comes in contact with water causing an increase in volume in the soil, this type of soil has intrinsic characteristics such as its mineralogical composition, for example, and extrinsic, related to the environment where the soil is inserted, such as this is the case with the of climatology the environment. The damage caused by expansive soils can have serious consequences for civil construction, so prior knowledge is important, as it makes it possible to identify problems and anticipate solutions. Therefore, this study aims to characterize and study the expansiveness of a soil originating from the campus of the Federal University of Ceará, located in the municipality of Russas - CE and to make possible relations between the expansive behavior and pathological manifestations that occurred in constructions resting on the ground. In order to obtain the results, laboratory tests of liquidity limit, plasticity limit, granulometry, compaction and real density were performed, in addition to identifying the expansive character, the edometric test was performed. With the realization of the study, it was proved that the soil is a low compressibility clay, which has a free expansion index of 3.94% and a degree of average expandability, in addition the soil presented as expansion stress in the value of 90 kPa. Given the above, it was concluded that this soil has an expansive behavior and that the lifting of the concrete blocks from the RU footbridge probably occurred due to this behavior, since the blocks do not have enough weight to contain the expansion tension of the soil.

Silva, Daniela Lima Machado daDiógenes, Rafael do Amaral2021-07-13T18:38:25Z2021-07-13T18:38:25Z2021info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersioninfo:eu-repo/semantics/bachelorThesisapplication/pdfhttp://www.repositorio.ufc.br/handle/riufc/59537porreponame:Repositório Institucional da Universidade Federal do Ceará (UFC)instname:Universidade Federal do Ceará (UFC)instacron:UFCinfo:eu-repo/semantics/openAccess2021-07-13T18:38:25Zoai:repositorio.ufc.br:riufc/59537Repositório InstitucionalPUBhttp://www.repositorio.ufc.br/ri-oai/requestbu@ufc.br || repositorio@ufc.bropendoar:2024-09-11T18:18:57.102688Repositório Institucional da Universidade Federal do Ceará (UFC) - Universidade Federal do Ceará (UFC)false
