Relações entre o desempenho em educação física e as áreas de conhecimento no Exame Nacional do Ensino Médio (ENEM)

This study aimed to verify the correlation between the candidates’ performance in the Physical Education items and the performance obtained in the knowledge areas in ENEM. The sample consisted of candidate students from 2009 to 2015. The results indicate that the students’ performance in Physical Education items has a “moderate” correlation with the performance in the Languages and Codes items in ENEM from 2009 to 2015, except the ones in 2009 and 2014, Human Sciences with a moderate correlation in 2011, 2012 and 2015 exams. Writing was the area there was less correlation with the performance in the Physical Education items in the analyzed exams, presenting values of “weak” correlation in the editions of 2009, 2011, 2012, 2013 and 2014. In addition, Mathematics was the only area which presented a “very weak” correlation. In view of the above, this paper may contribute to scientific improvement of the evaluative practices in School Physical Education, to enhance discussions about this field and, consequently, improvements in teaching practices could be achieved. From some limitations, such as the tests used to analyze data and the variables investigated, other analyses are recommended with the insertion of socioeconomic variables using multilevel models, in order to show which factors are determinant in candidates’ performance.
