Resumo: Higher education in Brazil faced long decades of stagnation, which resulted in the late development of academic formation. In the secretarial area, the reality was no different, the first start-up record of a higher education course was in 1970. Although with a gradual development, secretarial formation reached a certain development in the early 2000s, but in a later period there was a offer of new courses and the closing of existing courses. This reality generated the design of this research that sought to investigate the academic formation in Secretariat in Brazil. The relevance of this research is justified by the need to fill the gap of the absence of studies that portray the current panorama of the courses of Secretariat in higher level in Brazil, it is also expected to contribute with reflections on the future of the profession. In the methodological question, the research is descriptive and has it is qualitative approach. The research was carried out through documentary research, based on the secondary data obtained in the e-MEC database and in the Enade Synthesis reports, followed by data resulting from contact with 119 undergraduate courses in the Secretariat. Regarding the analysis and treatment of the data was carried out through the technique of content analysis. The results show that the number of Secretariat courses, in the face-to-face modality is suffering a significant retraction, in which there are currently 51 courses in operation in Brazil. When comparing the number of Secretariat courses that are in operation, with other courses in the field of management, such as Administration and Accounting Sciences, these areas show growth, while the secretariat presents a regression. It was concluded that the decrease in the offer of formation in Executive Secretariat has negative repercussions on the future of the profession and deserves attention from Higher Education Institutions, unions, associations and all professionals.
