Resumo: Cancer is a set of diseases that involves the disordered growth and scattering of abnormal cells and is the second leading cause of death in the world population. The search for new drugs is being researched to alleviate this problem. Among the different s ources of new molecules, marine natural products play a fundamental role in the discovery of new drugs, represented by some drugs approved for clinical use against cancer and several drugs in the pre clinical and clinical tests phase, emphasizing the impor tance of this environment as supplier of biologically active compounds. The objective of this work was the discovery of compounds with anticancer potential from marine microorganisms. Two ascidians collected on the beach of Ta í ba CE, Eudistoma vannamei a nd Euherdmania sp., had cultivated part of their associated bacteria. This effort yielded the isolation of 36 strains, 28 of Euherdmania sp. a nd 8 from E. vannamei . All strains were grown in liquid medium and their crude extracts obtained using the ethyl a cetate solvent. The extracts were tested for cytotoxic activity in colorectal cancer cells, HCT 116 at the concentration of 50 µ g/mL, using the MTT test to identify the percentage of still viable cells. Half of the extracts were active, considering those t hat inhibited the growth of tumor cells between 75 and 100%. The BRA 342 and BRA 346 strains yielded very potent extracts, with mean inhibitory concentration values of 0 59 and 0 03 µ g/mL, respectively. These extracts were then fractionated using the prin ciple of polarity difference and molecular size, and all fractions obtained were tested. The results showed the identification of prodigiosin for the strain identified as BRA 342, a bacterium of the genus Pseudovibrio . For BRA 346, identified with Streptom yces sp., t o date it has been possible to predict the existence of some classes of metabolites, among them, diketopiperazines, piericidins and lipopeptides.
