This paper presents the relation between emotional inference and reading comprehension. It aims to contribute to investment in empirical research in Brazil. To do this, it realizes a narrative review of studies theoretically based on discourse processing that demonstrate the importance of emotional inference for reading comprehension (BARREYRO et al., 2008; LEÓN et al., 2015; DÁVALOS; LEÓN, 2017). Next, it shows how the exploration of this type of inference is already present in the tasks of textual comprehension in a textbook of Portuguese language. Thus, in the conclusion, it notes the urgency of incorporating this knowledge for teaching and encourages the expansion of research in the area, for the improvement of pedagogical practices of teaching reading comprehension in Brazil.
