Resumo: This article reports a qualitative investigation, based on Dorothea Orem`s theoretical assumptions, which aimed to understand how the guidance given at discharge about the care related to bone marrow transplantation influence in self-care after discharge. The sample was composed of seven adults from a municipality of upstate Minas Gerais, who underwent the transplantation and were discharged from hospital between October 2004 and September 2010. The data were collected in January 2011 through domiciliary visits, semi-structured interviews and observation. Results from the thematic analysis pointed to a discussion on counseling received at discharge and the requirements for post-transplantation self-care. The self-care needs revealed by this study strengthen the importance of systematization of the nursing care, so that counseling received at discharge can effectively contribute to the patients' rehabilitation.

Foram sujeitos sete adultos de um município de Minas Gerais submetidos ao transplante e que obtiveram alta hospitalar entre outubro de 2004 e setembro de 2010. A coleta dos dados foi realizada em janeiro de 2011 por meio de visitas domiciliares, entrevistas semiestruturadas e observação. A partir da análise temática os resultados apontaram para uma discussão sobre as orientações recebidas no momento da alta e sobre os requisitos para o autocuidado após a alta do transplante. Conclui-se que as necessidades de autocuidado evidenciadas por este estudo reforçam a importância da sistematização do cuidado de enfermagem a fim de que as orientações no momento da alta representem efetiva contribuição à reabilitação dos pacientes.Este artículo presenta investigación cualitativa, apoyada en los presupuestos teóricos de Dorothea Orem, cuyo objetivo fue entender cómo la orientación dada en el alta hospitalaria acerca de la atención relacionada al trasplante de médula ósea influye en el autocuidado después del alta. Fueron sujetos siete adultos de municipio del interior de Minas Gerais, Brasil, sometidos al trasplante y que recibieron alta entre octubre de 2004 y setiembre de 2010. Los datos fueron copilados en enero de 2011 por medio de visitas domiciliarias, entrevistas semiestructuradas y observación. A partir del análisis temático, los resultados señalaron discusión acerca de las orientaciones recibidas en el momento del alta y de los requisitos para el autocuidado.
