Resumo: | Muscular injury on volleyball: prevention strategy and recoveringOne of the team sports that gained the most prominence, both in the media and in the number of practitioners is volleyball. The specialization in sport features volleyball as highly dependent on muscle power. After performing jumps, as well as in the preparation for them, athletes perform eccentric contractions, the main cause of muscle damage (MD). MD renders compromised performance, which can be decisive in short term competitions. The aim of this study is to review methods of prevention and treatment of MD symptoms and analyze their applicability in the context of competitive volleyball, focusing mainly on maintaining performance levels. The terms "Repeated bout effect", "supplementation", "protection" and "prevention" were crossed with the term "muscle damage" on the pubmedresearch base in order to find pertinent studies. We conclude that volleyball is a sport that can induce high levels of MD and championships with short intervals between matches can compromise the performance of athletes, due to the manifestation of MD. In terms of prevention, massage therapy was proved as an effective means to decrease delayed onset muscle soreness (DOMS). Volleyball coaches should pay attention to the manifestation of MD. Some of the markers are easily identifiable and must be accompanied with the aim of identifying the best moment to employ techniques of prevention and/or recovery from MD. |

Some of the markers are easily identifiable and must be accompanied with the aim of identifying the best moment to employ techniques of prevention and/or recovery from MD.Um dos esportes coletivos que vem ganhando mais destaque, tanto na mídia, quanto em número de praticantes, é o voleibol.
