Inter-organizational interactions matter significantly to the efficiency of organizations and represent a strategy by which micro and small enterprises (MSEs) outweigh their limitations. This article aims at identifying the characteristic features of micro and small enterprises that may be influenced by the adoption of network strategy, defined as the establishment of stable inter-organizational ties. Thus, this work has examined articles from Annals of Meeting of Studies in Entrepreneurship and Management of Micro and Small Enterprises (eGEP) which reported empirical studies on the subject, as well as references on small business and networks. In conclusion, this article identified mechanisms by which networks interfere in the characteristics of the MSEs and concluded that inter-organizational ties are characterized as a favorable strategy to MSEs since they can provide benefits through economies of agglomeration and the obtaining of benefits not achievable by a company if it acted in isolation.
