Avaliação do desempenho motor de crianças cardiopatas em um hospital público no município de Fortaleza-Ce

Introduction: The motor developmentt is considered a sequential and continous process related to chronological age, through which human being acquires motor skills. The Albert Infant Motor Scale (AIMS) standardized scale identifies motor delay through the observation of motor activity in the positions: prone, supine, sitting and standing. Objective: Description of motor development of children from 0 to 18 months of age, with congenital cardiopathy. Methods: Descriptive, transversal and quantitative study approved by Research Ethics Committee of Messejana Hospital. The sample was composed of 20 children interned in Pediatric Unit of Messejana Hospital. Results: Of evaluated children, being 14 masculine and 6 feminine, 30% (n=6) were premature and 60% (n=14) born at term. Cyanotic congenital heart diseases accounted for 35%(n=7) of the sample and the acyanotic 65% (n=13); the highest frequency was atrial septal defect (CIA), representing 40% (n=8). The results show that it had motor delay in 50% (n=10) of the sample studied, without relation with the type of cardiopathy and gestational age. Conclusion: Children with congenital heart disease, since they are not send to any kind of specialized care in order to have minimized the damage of motor skills. It is suggested the use of AIMS or other evaluation instrument for monitoring children with congenital heart disease.
