Brazil stands out among the six largest paint markets in the world, due to its technological updating and constant search to meet the demands and challenges posed by society and the market. Due to the current economic crisis in the country, it is necessary to review and reformulate the products, in order to reduce the cost, maintain competitiveness with the market and guarantee their quality. In North Brazil, the demand for synthetic fast drying enamels has increased, in which these enamels are air-drying paints, whose components are resins, especially alkyds, solvents, pigments and additives. The variation in the oil length of the alkyd resins directly influences the drying of the enamel, so in the present work it was possible to perform the reformulation of enamels, replacing the long alkyd resin (RAL) with a short alkyd resin (RAC). The tests were carried out in the laboratory and in the factory and the tests carried out following the norms of quality control. With the replacement of the resin, it was possible to establish a cost reduction of around 7% in the kilogram of the colors of the product portfolio, although RAC is a more expensive raw material than RAL. This change also resulted in a reduction of the instrumental drying time in 4 hours, as well as a reduction of the touch drying time to 20 minutes, which represents an optimization of 50% of the time spent. This work also presents a gain in the activity of painters and other customers, which reduced the time of painting between layers half, speeding up the execution of the work with the use of the new synthetic fast drying enamels.
