Contribuições da metodologia de gerenciamento de riscos para a preservação de acervos bibliográficos em bibliotecas universitárias

This academic work presents the university libraries, specifically the units that compose the Universidade Federal do Ceará’s Library System, as indispensable pieces for the academic arrangement of the Institutions of Higher Education in the sense that they are responsible for safeguarding their patrimony and it is up to them to take care that these documents are in full conditions of access and use by the community. This research conceptualizes preservation and conservation in the bibliographic context, the first one being understood as the set of administrative measures taken with the purpose of delaying the deterioration of the collection; and the second, understood as the set of techniques applied to bibliographic items aiming to bring physical and chemical stability to extend its useful life. This study is justified by the need to guide employees of information units in the decision-making process related to risk management to which their collections are exposed, by questioning how the risk management methodology is used by university libraries to mitigate the risks to which its bibliographic collection is exposed. As for the methodology, it is characterized as descriptive study of qualitative bias, having been carried out literature review; as a research method, the case study was used; the instrument of data collection was the online questionnaire. The data analysis shows a lack of guidance regarding preservation planning and risk management, evidenced by the absence of documents that regulates these processes, insufficient training given to the people who deal with the collections, and the inexistence of risk management processes for protecting and safeguarding of the collection.
