Resumo: The objectives of this study were to measure the expectations and the satisfaction of puerperal women regarding prenatal care through the instrument: Patient Expectations and Satisfaction with Prenatal Care (PESPC) and to correlate the sociodemographic and obstetric profile of puerperal women with the level expectations and satisfaction. This is a descriptive, cross-sectional study with a quantitative approach, carried out during the years 2016 to 2018 with women hospitalized in the Obstetric Center of Hospital Geral Dr. César Cals (HGCC) and in Maternidade Escola Assis Chateaubriand (MEAC) and that met the eligibility criteria. The sample size was calculated by the formula for finite populations, defining the participation of 300 women in this study. The project was submitted to the Research Ethics Committee of HGCC and MEAC through Plataforma Brasil, respecting the norms of Resolution 466/12 of the National Health Council. Data were analyzed using the Mann-Whitney test. There was a predominance of women between 18 and 34 years old (85%), with educational level higher than nine years (67.3%), from Fortaleza (66.3%), with a monthly income lower than the minimum wage (50%), unpaid work (65%), married / stable union (81%), non-white race (86.7%) and Catholic religion (50%). Most women did not have a health insurance (89%), had a history of two or more pregnancies (61.7%), showed satisfaction with previous prenatal care (84.3%) and had seven or more prenatal consultations (64.3%). In addition, statistically significant relationships were found between the expectation domain and prenatal in previous pregnancy, when applicable; and between the satisfaction domain and age, educational level, the number of previous pregnancies in which prenatal care was performed, previous prenatal satisfaction (when applicable), the presence of preterm newborns and the presence of intrauterine growth restriction. Despite the limitations of this research, it was possible to identify the variables associated with the expectations and the satisfaction of the women over the prenatal care, which contributes to the improvement of Nursing care.
