Brazil is a country that has a high incidence of lightning, these phenomena are difficult to predict and cause problems, which can cause material damage to structures, disturbances in overhead transmission and distribution networks, in addition to risking people's lives, thus being It is necessary to adopt means to minimize these problems. In view of the need to neutralize or minimize such problems, the Brazilian standard NBR 5419 was created, which deals with SPDA. Based on the above, this work presents the main concepts involving the analysis and management of risks addressed by NBR 5419/2015, such as the concept of losses and types of losses, damages and types of damages, and their associated risks. In addition, it also proposes to clarify the main applications of this NBR, which flowchart to be followed in decision-making on whether or not to improve protective measures that may be necessary for the proper protection of a structure or building. To this end, fundamental definitions were made, such as the concept of lightning and its formation, lightning protection systems and subsystems, protection methods, and explanations about touch and step voltages. Finally, an analysis of the risk management of a case study of a consumer unit was carried out, identifying the losses involved and the associated risk, having as a conclusion the analysis of the conformity of the study with the standards proposed by the norm.
