Resumo: | In modern times, democracy has been strongly debated, mainly due to the outbreak of revolutionary movements in several countries, especially in regions like North Africa and the Middle East. Furthermore, the world faces a severe economic crisis, which has impacted several nations, particularly in some Member States of the European Union (EU). Thus, it can be observed that a feeling of tension is rising concerning the democratic model and what the people from places affected by contemporary difficulties expect from such a regime. Considering the fact that the world increasingly turns to the phenomenon known as globalization, the problems mentioned previously have the power to contaminate the global community in a profound way, since the interdependence among nations has reached a high degree of complexity. Faced with this scenario, one can see the strengthening of international organizations, among which the United Nations (UN) can be highlighted, and has functioned as a central decision-making organization in the pursuit of social pacification of the regions facing hard times, including decisions related to the authorization to use military force in some cases. Thus, the purpose of this paper is to analyze the legitimacy of the positions of the UN and if its structure is consistent with democratic principles, since this aspect is fundamental to consider its positions and its decisions as legitimate. |

A democracia no sistema internacionalDemocracy in the international systemDemocraciaSistema InternacionalOrganização das Nações Unidas. In modern times, democracy has been strongly debated, mainly due to the outbreak of revolutionary movements in several countries, especially in regions like North Africa and the Middle East.
