Resumo: The paper focus on the analysis of the monetary aggregates behavior between January/1999 and December/2014, after the establishment of the floating Exchange in the brazilian economy, as well as the institutional arrangement of the monetary authority, seeking to expose the real role of the Central Bank in the different macroeconomic policies in this time lapse. The analysis is stimulated by intense debates that happened recently about the autonomy of Central Bank in developing his policies. For this, the data of monetary aggregates removed at the site of Bacen were used, and, applying the threshold autoregressive model, we analyzed the explosive tendency of the aggregates in this period of time, in order to understand the effects of the institutional changes in this dynamic. A change in the liquidity regime has been identified in all the monetary aggregates, however, the most liquidity aggregate seems to have a clearer influence on the GDP. The behaviour of the Central Bank of Brazil also changes among different sceneries, showing a lost of autonomy along the time.

The behaviour of the Central Bank of Brazil also changes among different sceneries, showing a lost of autonomy along the time.O trabalho busca analisar o comportamento dos agregados monetários entre Janeiro/1999 e Dezembro/2014, após o estabelecimento do câmbio flutuante na economia brasileira, bem como o arranjo institucional da autoridade monetária, procurando expor o real papel do Banco Central nas diferentes políticas macroeconômicas neste lapso temporal. A análise é estimulada pelos intensos debates ocorridos recentemente a respeito da autonomia do Banco Central na elaboração de suas políticas. Para isso, foram utilizados os dados dos agregados monetários retirados no sítio do Bacen, e, utilizando um modelo auto-regressivo com valor limite endógeno, analisou-se a tendência explosiva dos agregados em determinados períodos, buscando compreender as causas na conjuntura econômica de cada período bem como as mudanças institucionais a partir desta dinâmica. Foram identificadas mudanças no regime de liquidez em todos os agregados monetários, contudo, o agregado monetário de maior liquidez apresentou uma influência mais nítida sobre o comportamento do PIB.
