Resumo: This research focuses on criteria to define a gerund periphrase as gerundismo: form, temporal nature, aspect and modality. Aditionally, we present a hypothesis about the origin of gerundismo, and offer considerations about linguistic prejudice, because of the fact that some gerund constructions are stigmatized while others do not give rise to prejudiced attitudes.
