The marine pollution control is really important to keep the oceans’ health in front of the increase of human pressures. Efective control steps reduce the pollution negative impacts over the marine environment, preserving ecossistems and species. This way, it is important to compile papers about this topic on scientific literature, in order to provide a clearer analysis about what still needs to be studied to provide data for future decisions. To achieve this goal, scientific papers and books, from the 1970s until now, were searched on public and private electronic databases. There are, still, many fields about marine pollution by debris, sewage, petroleum and navigation that are understudied. Underdeveloped countries and countries in development still need data about this subject, creating lacks of this type of information in big part of the world. This way, the scientific community needs to concentrate some effort to feed this lack of primary data, like the impacts suffered by marine biota and the state of pollution in these places, so the marine ecossistem can be preserved.
