The sonnet is the form of poetic expression created by the Italian poet Petrarch, who sings about submissive love of a man to a haughty and attractive woman. Much used form in humanistic Europe, in England of the Renaissance period was adapted to what we now call the English sonnet. Renaissance literature, like other arts and science, receives great influences from classical antiquity. William Shakespeare's sonnets sing the Love and Beauty of Renaissance thought, which rescues these ideals that is part of the Western cultural heritage from classical myths, such as Narcissus and Hippolytus, to philosophical thinking about Love in Plato’s The Symposium (1972). This article seeks possible allusions to the mentioned myths in Shakespeare’s sonnets (1997) I and III dedicated to Fair Youth, to identify in the studies of the author's poetry the handsome young man who wastes his beauty by not leaving it to posterity through conceiving offspring.
