Resumo: The environmental problems caused by the use of fossil fuels and the steady increase in their price have increased the demand for renewable energies. Brazil is considered a country with great potential, where we can highlight its territorial extension that can be harnessed to cultivate diverse species of plants with purpose of production of Biomass. However, they are not all species that have energetic potential for this purpose. There is a need to carry out an in-depth study with several tests for a real analysis of energy power. Researchers from the Nucleus of Industrial Technology of Ceará (NUTEC), an organ linked to the state public administration, has investigated the use of different types of plant wood for this purpose. In this study, a sample of Jurema-Preta (Mimosa tenuiflora (Willd) Poir.) And Alga-roba (Prosopis juliflora) were sampled, species with a low water requirement and a proven ability to grow on low fertility soils , a notorious feature of much of the state of Ceará. The objective of this study was to investigate the energy potential of these two species, analyzing the volatile materials content, ash content, moisture content and calorific value with which it was possible to conclude that the studied species are very viable for use in obtaining energy.
