Resumo: Parasitoid insects of the Trichogrammatidae family (Hymenoptera) are the most used biological control agents in the world, especially the Trichogramma pretiosum Riley, 1879 (Hymenoptera: Trichogrammatidae). Thus, for the success of biological control, the mass creation of natural enemies and subsequent release in the field are important steps to be followed. Therefore, the objective of this study was to verify packet viability of non-woven fabric (NWF) packaging with the aim of releasing Trichogramma spp. The experiment was developed at the “Laboratório de Entomologia Aplicada (LEA)” and part of the evaluation of the packaging was carried out in the company “IN Soluções Biológicas LTDA”. In order to perform the experiment, egg cards of Anagasta kuehniella (Zeller, 1879) (Lepidoptera: Pyralidae) was previously offered to T. pretiosum mated females were prepared for 24 hours. Then, the cards containing parasitized eggs were placed in NWF packages of different grammages (35, 40 and 60 microns) provided by “TNTex Embalagens LTDA”. The packages were packed in glass containers (5.0 x 5.0 x 5.0 cm), sealed with PVC® plastic film and conditioned in a controlled room at 25 ± 3ºC, 60 ± 10% RH and photophase of 12 h until the emergence of parasitoids. The number of parasitoids outside and inside the packages were the evaluated parameters. NWF packs with 35 micron grammage provided only 38% of adult output, while the grammages of 40 and 60 microns allowed 72.4 and 73.3%, respectively. The low percentage of natural enemies leaving the 35 micron packs possibly occurred due to the low stiffness of the material conferring malleability, together with the surface finish classified as needles, being easily "shredded". The 40 and 60 micron NWF packages have higher rigidity and thermally bonded surface finish, which does not allow for the "shredding" of the material. Thus, it can be concluded that the use of TNT packages as "capsules" for the release of T. pretiosum is feasible, and the grammages of 40 and 60 microns are the most promising because they allow a higher percentage of natural enemies to exit.
