Resumo: The influence of initial storage (V0) on the reservoir storage process has been object of a few studies and as a result one can find in literature some procedures to handle the problem. In the present paper it was used Monte Carlo Method to find out the initial storage for faster convergence rate for different scenarios of coefficient of variation of annual inflows (CV=0.2 to 1.6) in Northeast Brazil and southwest part of the United States. The preliminary results showed that the VIMC is function of coefficient of variation of annual inflows and does not assume a fixed value of 50%K. Further studies are being developed in Universidade Federal do Ceará, in order to verify how evaporation and mean monthly discharge ‘s pattern affect the rate of convergence of the storage process to the steady state.

O presente trabalho faz uso da Simulação de Monte Carlo para determinar o Volume Inicial de Máxima Convergência para diversos cenários de coeficiente de variação de vazões anuais (CV=0,2 a 1,6), no Nordeste Brasileiro e no sudoeste dos Estados Unidos. Os resultados preliminares indicam que o VIMC é função do coeficiente de variação dos deflúvios afluentes ao reservatório e não assume um valor fixo de 50%K.
