Resumo: | One of the main causes of hospitalization of children with chronic diseases is due to Voiding Dysfunctions, which correspond to the difficulty that the child has in storing and emptying the bladder completely. The most indicated technique as a treatment is Clean Intermittent Catheterization, which allows the complete emptying of the bladder, through the insertion of a catheter in the urethra. Thus, caregivers must be trained to develop the necessary skill and self-confidence to perform it. The objective of the research was to analyze the self-confidence of caregivers of children with voiding disorders regarding the performance of clean intermittent catheterization. This is a descriptive, cross-sectional study with a quantitative approach, carried out from May to June 2023, in a Specialized Service in Stomies, Wounds and Incontinence of a Tertiary Children's Hospital in Ceará. To measure the data, an instrument for sociodemographic characterization was used, a questionnaire to assess prior knowledge about voiding dysfunction and clean intermittent catheterization and the Self-Confidence Scale For Clean Intermittent Urinary Self-Catheterization. The collection had the participation of 16 caregivers aged between 21 and 48 years. Most of these lived in the countryside, were housewives, had a partner and more than one child, had completed high school and their family income was one minimum wage. 14 of the caregivers had already received training on catheterization and two others underwent training at the time of data collection. In the application of the prior knowledge questionnaire with 10 questions, 150 correct answers were obtained, three incorrect and seven as I don't know. As for the self-confidence scale, it was analyzed that caregivers who had a low level of self-confidence reached less than 50% of the total of 80 points, but after going through the training, they had a high self-confidence and were able to do more than 50% of the tasks. optimal value. Thus, we infer that training influences the development of self-confidence for the correct and safe performance of catheterization. Therefore, it is analyzed how important outpatient training is in improving the self-confidence of caregivers who will perform clean intermittent catheterization at home, since they need to feel safe and confident to perform the procedure on their children, generating empowerment and improvement in the skills of performing catheterization. |
