ENVIRONMENTAL CHARACTERIZATION AND MORPHOMETRIC ANALYSIS OF ITAUEIRA RIVER WATER BASIN, PIAUÍ, BRAZIL

Resumo: | The study aimed to perform geoenvironmental characterization, particularly morphometric, of the Itaueira River Basin, state of Piauí, from geometric variables, drainage network and relief, as a possibility to know the environmental dynamics of the basin. For this purpose it used the Digital Elevation Model (DEM) to calculate the morphometric parameters related to the geometric characteristics, drainage network and relief. Thus, the study indicated that the basin area studied is 10122.4 km2 and a perimeter of 757.03 km2. In turn, the basin has an elongated profile and low predisposition to abrupt flooding, as its compactness coefficient is 2.1068, form factor 0.12 and circularity index of 0.222. The total length of the watercourses is 735.2 km, drainage density 0.073 km/km², hydrographic density 0.0014 and 3rd order river channels. The altitude and average slope found were 371.7 m and 4.81%, respectively, while its roughness index was 44.238. |

The altitude and average slope found were 371.7 m and 4.81%, respectively, while its roughness index was 44.238.El estudio tuvo como objetivo realizar una caracterización geoambiental, particularmente morfométrica, de la cuenca del río Itaueira, estado de Piauí, a partir de variables geométricas, red de drenaje y relieve, como una posibilidad para conocer la dinámica ambiental de esa cuenca. Para este propósito, utilizó el Modelo de Elevación Digital (DEM) para calcular los parámetros morfométricos relacionados con las características geométricas, la red de drenaje y el relieve. Por lo tanto, el estudio indicó que el área de la cuenca estudiada es de 10.122,4 km2 y un perímetro de 757,03 km2. A su vez, la cuenca tiene un perfil alargado y una baja predisposición a inundaciones bruscas, ya que su coeficiente de compacidad es 2,1068, factor de forma 0,12 e índice de circularidad de 0,222. La longitud total de los cursos de agua es de 735,2 km, densidad de drenaje 0,073 km/km², densidad hidrográfica 0,0014 y canales fluviales de tercer orden. La altitud y la pendiente promedio encontradas fueron 371,7 y 4,81%, respectivamente, mientras que su índice de rugosidad fue 44,238.O estudo teve como objetivo realizar caracterização geoambiental, particularmente morfométrica, da Bacia Hidrográfica do rio Itaueira, estado do Piauí, a partir de variáveis geométricas, rede de drenagem e do relevo, como possibilidade para conhecimento da dinâmica ambiental da referida bacia. Para tal finalidade empregou o Modelo Digital de Elevação (MDE) para calcular os parâmetros morfométricos relativos às características geométricas, rede de drenagem e relevo. Desse modo, o estudo indicou que a área da bacia estudada é de 10.122,4 km2 e perímetro de 757,03 km2. Por sua vez, a bacia apresenta perfil alongado e baixa predisposição a inundações abruptas, pois seu coeficiente de compacidade é de 2,1068, fator de forma de 0,12 e índice de circularidade de 0,222. O comprimento total dos cursos de água é de 735,2 km, densidade de drenagem de 0,073 km/km², densidade hidrográfica é 0,0014 e canais fluviais de 3ª ordem.
