Resumo: The predominance of green areas in the urban environment represents an important organizing element of the space through the forestation of squares, parks, gardens, woods and reserves. Environmental zoning is a planning of space occupation in an orderly manner and according to its characteristics and potentialities, functioning as an indicator of environmental quality and quality of life. The present article instigated the students of the 9th grade, from Elementary School II to the research of scientific initiation, with the objective of knowing and zoning the green areas surrounding the school and community and its importance for the aesthetic, functional and environmental quality of the city. The results evidenced that the urban expansion led to an intense process of degradation of the vegetation areas of the urban perimeter of Guanambi, resulting from the disordered urban process without planning and zoning of these areas.

La zonificación ambiental es una planificación de la ocupación del espacio de manera ordenada y de acuerdo con sus características y potencialidades, que funciona como un indicador de la calidad ambiental y la calidad de vida. El presente artículo instigó a los estudiantes de noveno grado, desde la escuela primaria II hasta la investigación de iniciación científica, con el objetivo de conocer y zonificar las áreas verdes que rodean la escuela y la comunidad y su importancia para la calidad estética, funcional y ambiental de la ciudad. Los resultados evidenciaron que la expansión urbana condujo a un intenso proceso de degradación de las áreas de vegetación del perímetro urbano de Guanambi, como resultado del proceso urbano desordenado sin planificación y zonificación de estas áreas.A predominância de áreas verdes no ambiente urbano representa importante elemento organizador do espaço através da arborização de praças, parques, jardins, bosques e reservas. O zoneamento ambiental é um planejamento da ocupação espacial de forma ordenada e de acordo com suas características e potencialidades, funcionando como indicador de qualidade ambiental e da qualidade de vida.  O presente artigo instigou os alunos do 9º ano, do Ensino Fundamental II à pesquisa de iniciação científica, com objetivo de conhecer e zonear as áreas verdes circundantes a escola e comunidade e sua importância para a qualidade estética, funcional e ambiental da cidade.
