Conceptual metaphors in the mother-infant relationship in the first years of life

Resumo: This work has as general objective to identify the conceptual metaphors used in the relationship between mother and child in the first years of life. We use as theoretical foundation, the cognitive nature postulates of Lakoff and Johnson (2002 [1980]), the contributions of Sardinha (2007), the studies about the relationship between metaphor and culture (Kövecses, 2005, 2010) and metaphor and ideology (GOATLY, 2007), among others. The corpus consists of a set of data, four mother-baby dyads, obtained through vídeotaped everyday dialogues in the mother-baby relationship, available in the Speech and Writing Acquisition Laboratory (LAFE) of the UFPB. Based on the analysis, we could see that from the early mother-baby relationship it is already possible to verify the use of conceptual metaphors, and that the use of these metaphors reveal cultural, moral, ethical, ideological values, which are transmitted by mothers to when interacting with the children.

Utilizamos, como alicerce teórico, os postulados de cunho cognitivista de Lakoff e Johnson (2002 [1980]), as contribuições de Sardinha (2007), os estudos sobre a relação entre metáfora e cultura (KOVECSES, 2005, 2010) e metáfora e ideologia (GOATLY, 2007), entre outros. O corpus é constituído por um conjunto de dados, obtidos através de diálogos cotidianos videografados na relação mãe-bebê, disponíveis no Laboratório de Aquisição da Fala e da Escrita (LAFE) da Universidade Federal da Paraíba.
