Lexicon and religious ethos: modes of ideological operation in the discourse practiced in an ecclesiastical provision

Resumo: This article sought to analyze the lexicon and the religious ethos, from the discourse practiced in the ecclesiastical provision produced in ecclesiastical environments, a documental type of diplomatic nature written by a diocesan bishop, and which purpose was to appoint the priest Joaquim Alves Ferreira for the canonical function of parish priest of the Parish São Miguel Arcanjo of Itapebuçu-CE. To this end, we drew on the theoretical perspectives of Philology and Critical Discourse Analysis, considering Spina (1977), Bourdieu (1984), Gumbrecht (2007), Bellotto (2002), Abbade (2006), Krieger (2006), Ximenes (2013) and Fairclough (2016). To understand the hierarchical construction of the Catholic Church and its division of positions of power, we drew on Urban and Bexten (2013), the Code of Canon Law (2017), and some theorists of lexical study. Our research corpus is made up of an ecclesiastical provision collected from the Book of Tombo of the Parish of Itapebuçu-CE, dated 1939. After collection, the document underwent philological analysis, being presented in this work, in two editions: facsimile and semi-diplomatic; in the following step, the documental type was analyzed linguistically, with focus on the manifestation of religious power through the lexicon, also revealer of the discursive mechanisms of ethos construction of the writing bishop. Therefore, this research aimed to approach the philological labor of the critical discourse study, investigating the textual-discursive practice of figures of power from the high hierarchy of the Catholic Church in Ceará lands.

Para tanto, amparamo-nos nas perspectivas teóricas da Filologia e da Análise de Discurso Crítica, por meio dos estudos de Spina (1977), Bourdieu (1984), Gumbrecht (2007), Bellotto (2002), Abbade (2006), Krieger (2006), Ximenes (2013) e Fairclough (2016). Para compreendermos a construção hierárquica da Igreja Católica e a sua divisão de postos de poder, amparamo-nos em Urban e Bexten (2013), no Código de Direito Canônico (2017) e em alguns teóricos do estudo do léxico. Nosso corpus de pesquisa é constituído de um exemplar de provisão eclesiástica coletado do Livro de Tombo da Paróquia de Itapebuçu-CE, datado de 1939. Após a coleta, o documento passou por tratamento filológico, sendo apresentado neste trabalho, em duas edições: fac-similar e semidiplomática; em etapa seguinte, o tipo documental foi analisado linguisticamente, tendo como foco a manifestação do poder religioso através do léxico, também revelador dos mecanismos discursivos de construção do ethos do bispo redator.
