"Eles trazem remédios bons para curar os cristãos": uma análise da representação de cura em hinários do Santo Daime.

In this work, a qualitative documental study was carried out whose object of analysis was the representations of the phenomenon of healing in three hinários of the Santo Daime doctrine: “O Cruzeiro”, “O Punisher” and “Nova Jerusalem”. The general objective of the work was to analyze how healing is discursively represented in these hymnals. The specific objectives were: To identify and classify the healing agents in the doctrine and their levels; identify and classify the sources of evil and the strategies used to combat it; identify and classify the hymns that present this theme; identify and classify the diseases present; and to delimit the role and relevance of hymnals for the doctrine. Bardin's (2011) categorical content analysis technique was used, which consists of a range of devices whose flexibility allows to account for the communicative field over which the analysis extends, in order to seek the implicit content of the messages. The two main exponents of the doctrine were considered in the selection of hinários: Irineu Serra and Sebastião Mota de Melo. The following descriptors were used: suffering, good/bad, cure, health, disease and variants. 28 hymns were selected to compose the analysis corpus. Subsequently, three categories were created: Hymn-Instruction, Suffering-Salvation and Healing Entities. It was noticed that certain hymns showed a clear tendency to externalize messages that express the meaning of an instruction, advice, bring teachings to guide the adepts (“Hymn-Instruction”); the idea that suffering is a consequence of our own acts as a response to disobeying the teachings (“Suffering and Salvation”), or the presentation of beings from the daimist pantheon who show themselves as healing beings (Healing Entities). In the end, the conclusion is reached that the dimension of healing in the Santo Daime hymns is fundamental to discursively feed the rituals employed and the doctrine constructed. “Work” is understood in its entirety, but also in its details, as a vehicle for physical and spiritual treatment. This phenomenon, the cure, appears in the birth of the Daimist doctrine, in its coming of age and in its developments, and is reflected in the history and content of the hymns that make up its cardinal compilations: O Cruzeiro, O Justiceiro and a Nova Jerusalem.
