Integrated application of OEE with quality tools to a fleet of industrial waste handling equipment

Resumo: The concept of Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE) is commonly used in industrial processes to identify and mitigate wastes. The application of this indicator in the management of industrial solid waste is still scarce and deserves to be explored. This paper aims to apply the OEE for the analysis of the efficiency of waste handling equipment in a pulp and paper industry, in addition to identifying and analyzing the main losses that reduce the efficiency of equipment. The research was conducted with two trucks, one of biomass and one of unpicked wood, whose OEE’s were 62% and 71%, respectively. After analyzing the main losses through the use of quality tools, and implementing improvement actions, it was possible to increase the bucket occupancy rate by 12%. The work concluded that the company must expand the application of OEE to the entire fleet of equipment in order to constantly act on the waste of the process.

La aplicación de este indicador en el manejo de residuos sólidos industriales es aún escasa y merece ser explorada. El presente trabajo tuvo como objetivo aplicar el OEE al análisis de la eficiencia de los equipos de manejo de residuos en una industria de pulpa y papel, además de identificar y analizar las principales pérdidas que reducen la eficiencia de los equipos. La investigación se realizó con dos camiones, uno de biomasa y otro de madera sin trocear, cuyos OEE's fueron del 62% y 71%, respectivamente. Luego de analizar las principales pérdidas por el uso de herramientas de calidad e implementación de acciones de mejora, se logró incrementar el índice de ocupación del balde en un 12%. El trabajo concluyó que la empresa debe expandir la aplicación de OEE a toda la flota de equipos para actuar constantemente sobre los desperdicios del proceso.O conceito de Eficiência Global de Equipamentos (OEE) é comumente utilizado em processos industriais para a identificação e mitigação de desperdícios. A aplicação deste indicador na gestão de resíduos sólidos industriais ainda é escassa e merece ser explorada. O presente trabalho teve como objetivo aplicar a OEE para a análise da eficiência de equipamentos de movimentação de resíduos de uma indústria de papel e celulose, além de identificar e analisar as principais perdas que diminuem a eficiência dos equipamentos. A pesquisa foi conduzida junto à dois caminhões, um de biomassa e um de madeira não picada, cujas OEE’s foram de 62% e 71%, respectivamente. Após a análise das principais perdas por meio da utilização de ferramentas da qualidade e implementação de ações de melhoria, conseguiu-se aumentar a taxa de ocupação das caçambas em 12%.
