Resumo: Desde seu surgimento no discurso científico, a figura do trickster tornou-se assunto de muitas controvérsias e fonte de especulação em muitos campos de pesquisa. Apesar das múltiplas tentativas para sintetizar esse tópico, os pesquisadores parecem ainda estar longe de resolver o “problema do trickster”. O artigo tenta resgatar os argumentos clássicos da área, a fim de identificar as fontes de intrigas, e encontrar motivos comuns ligando ponderações diversas. Pesquisadores de escolas diferentes parecem concordar com a natureza arcaica dos mitos dos tricksters. Isso é indicado pela paradoxalidade, ambivalência, imprevisibilidade e multidimensionalidade da figura do trickster e sua sabedoria específica na forma de astúcia gravitando em direção a um complexo xamânico, assim como a dispersão e caráter caótico dos episódios míticos.
