The 19th century Brazil, was the destination for many foreign travelers, driven to discover the New World and also its most primitive inhabitants - the Indians. These trips resulted in reports of the flora and fauna, social life, labor relations and production, blacks and indigenous people and their enslavements. In this scenario, the german traveler Paul Max Alexander Ehrenreich Physician and professor of anthropology, will travel to Brazil twice in search of Brazilian Indians and thanks to one of these trips allows us to understand how it was the Province of the Espírito Santo in the late 19th century and especially the Indians Botocudos. This dissertation analyzes the German anthropologist research about these capixabas indians, on the assumption that Ehrenreich, while he shared the view of other travelers about the lands visited also had a singular vision, guided by scientific. This work covers both the narrative, the images produced by Ehrenreich during his stay in the province of the Espírito Santo.
