Resumo: The purpose of this research was to analyze the comic strips of Amarildo Lima published by a local newspaper, AGazeta, during the electoral campaignfor governor in 2006, focusing on the organization of the topic throughout that period. For this purpose, it was chosen the notion of Discourse Topic, based on Koch et al. ([1989] 1996), Jubran et al. ([1992] 2002), Koch ([1993] 2007), Jubran (2006). In order to analyze the text and its situational and sociocultural contexts, Koch´s (2003) and Marcuschi´s (2006/2008) studies were taken into account. For text genre descriptions, Marcuschi´s 2008 perspectives were used as framework as well as his notion of medium and multimodality. In addition to that, to approach the comic strip genre, researches by Gurgel (2004), Lopes (2008), Rios (2008), and Quadros (2008) and Ramos (2010) were also considered. For theoretical and methodological appraisal of the corpus, the works of Marcuschi (2006), Koch & Penna (2006), Pinheiro (2006), Bentes & Rio (2006), and Lins (2006/2008) were used. Those authors have analyzed the discourse topic in several texts genres, especially Lins (2006/2008) who innovated the theory of discourse topic when applied it to the study of sequences of comic strips published in a daily base. The present research analyses a similar type of corpus. Because of this assertion is that the author of this work were treated as a parameter for the study of gender privileged, in this research, the cartoon, being a text that includes a verbal-iconic language, but also conveys a critical facts about characters and politicians, drawing the reader's attention intensely.Considering the principle of organity, the sequence of comic strips was studied taking into account the topic progression established by verbal and nonverbal items. Accordingly, this research aims to demonstrate whether it is possible to study the topic in a text genre which not only can support multiple languages, has its daily publication according to the subjects covered in the media.

Accordingly, this research aims to demonstrate whether it is possible to study the topic in a text genre which not only can support multiple languages, has its daily publication according to the subjects covered in the media.
