Resumo: | Technological evolution influences practically all areas of society, in parallel with the advancement of cell phones through smartphones. In addition, the use of applications, or Apps, has facilitated several processes for its users. Several institutions are dedicated to creating applications, including companies, government agencies and universities. The present work aimed to bring the scenario of mobile applications developed by Federal Universities in Brazil. For this, a survey of these institutions in the country was carried out and the apps developed by them were identified. The data were obtained from searches in the Google Play Store and the National Institute of Industrial Property – INPI databases. The results were organized according to the ordering of applications by federative unit and division into groups, to analyze their functions and identify possibilities for innovation. A total of 200 apps were identified, only 13 (6.5%) are registered with the INPI. The lower concentration (7.5%) of apps published by Universities in the North region is notable, while in the Southeast region there is a greater proportion (28%), whereas the Northeast region is responsible for 21%. Among the Apps found, those that show academic and administrative information from universities are the most popular among users, however, copyright protection through registration with the INPI, as intellectual property assets, is still low. The area is still little explored in research, considering the low amount of works on the subject. |

The area is still little explored in research, considering the low amount of works on the subject.
