Resumo: The business-society interaction model has been largely discussed from a sustainable local development perspective, on the premise that no civil society organization, for profit or nonprofit, can survive in a unstable and unequal environment. At the same time, businesses have increasingly assumed the role of common good providers and have been called upon for social actions as much by the public as by the government. In this scenario and in a context in which corporate social responsibility should contribute to sustainable development, the question that presents itself is how a large business can reconcile its own interests with the needs and expectations of the government and local communities. The objective of this article was to verify the private social investment contribution towards local development through joint actions with a large energy company and a technical Tourism schools in the city of Anchieta, in the state of Espírito Santo. In order to reach our proposed aim, qualitative exploratory research was chosen, originally limiting the sample to six institutions whose work is prominently related to promoting local development in their respective communities and even deal with the Promotional Education Movement of Espírito Santo (MEPES) and the Family Tourism School project (EFTUR). Managers of the selected institutions and professionals who work/worked as social project managers were interviewed.
