Resumo: | This article presents the case of a company in the State of Rio de Janeiro that produces plastic lumber from waste generated in other businesses. Aims to present the form of insertion of this company in the production chains of the others, now provide ingredients for plastic lumber. The extension of the life cycle of plastics and natural fibers, which would otherwise constitute waste, reducing the need for extraction and consumption of natural wood, as well as consequences of the use of, for example, deforestation and possible improper combustion , avoided by the use of plastic lumber, suggest that, based on the logic of closed-loop material on the concept of industrial Ecology, can develop sustainable production processes in industrial ecosystem investigated. Objetiva-se apresentar a forma de inserção desta empresa nas cadeias produtivas das demais, agora fornecedoras de insumos para madeira plástica. O prolongamento do ciclo de vida de materiais plásticos e fibras naturais, que, de outra forma constituiriam resíduos, a redução da necessidade de extração e consumo da madeira natural, bem como conseqüências do uso desta, como, por exemplos, desmatamentos indevidos e eventual combustão, evitada pelo uso da madeira plástica, sugerem que, baseados na lógica de ciclo fechado de materiais, referente ao conceito de Ecologia Industrial, podem-se desenvolver processos de produção sustentáveis no ecossistema industrial investigado.
